Following in the footsteps of luxury mobile phone makers, Motorola has gone glam with the Aura, a high-end luxury cellphone featuring a swivel design. This inimitably designed phone touts more than 700 individual components, a 62-carat sapphire crystal lens, and the industry’s first 16-million color, circular display with 300 dpi resolution. Inspired by luxury watches and handcrafted design, the Motorola Aura has glossy stainless steel housing, and the chemically etched textures and patterns further add to the overall beauty of the device. This luxury phone also features a mechanical heart-shaped Swiss-made main bearing. Technical specs for the Aura include 1.55-inch round LCD screen, MMS/SMS/Email support, music player, 2-megapixel fixed focus camera with video recording, stereo Bluetooth, USB 2.0 connectivity, open source mobile web browser, 2GB of internal memory, and 7.3 hours of talk time.
Jim Wicks, corporate vice president and director of Consumer Experience Design, Mobile Devices, Motorola cites:
AURA is Motorola’s latest endeavor into the high-tier mobile device space and is the result of our continued inspiration to innovate in design, imagination and state-of-the-art handcraftsmanship.
The Aura is available for pre-order now and is expected to be launched worldwide beginning in Q4 2008 for a cool $2000. Obviously, luxury doesn’t come cheap!
